After many years, I finally made the time to print a “portrait” of the Jack O’Clubs Hotel based on a black & white photo courtesy of Marie Nagel. The late Gary Seale made the first set of film positives at Spartan Printing in Quesnel. I printed the background silhouette of the building in transparent silver, because the Jack burned down on Valentine’s Day in 1994, and is no longer there – I didn’t want it too appear too solid. The spirit of Lucky Swede overlooks the scene from above; I printed him with transparent gloss silver.
Printing the first layer: a transparent, gradient night sky. Printing one of the building layers: a transparent mauve-grey.
